Tech Group Inc. of Scottsdale, Ariz., has purchased Milacron Inc.'s first all-electric, two-component injection press, a 330-ton Powerline.
The machine uses standard and stack multicomponent, servo-driven molds built by Tech Group. The mold does not use any hydraulics.
Tech Group is a leader in multicomponent molding, running the process on nine injection presses in North America and 11 in Europe.
“We now have a business plan to go after in-mold assembly and multicomponent jobs, and the two-component Powerline is a key part of our technology platform,” said Bill Gerard, Tech's vice president of engineering.
The 330-ton Powerline uses two reciprocating injection units arranged in an L shape, and a rack-and-pinion clamp drive.
Tech Group initially will direct the machine at development work but will use it for production as needed, Gerlardi said.
Tech has purchased 31 of Milacron's all-electric Roboshot presses during the past few years.
