Visteon Corp.'s partner in a Mississippi automotive assembly operation has filed for protection from creditors, but a spokesman said the move should have no impact on the interior-supply joint venture.
Lextron Corp., a Jackson electronics assembly firm, filed Feb. 12 for Chapter 11 protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Jackson.
Lextron/Visteon Automotive Systems opened in 2003 to assemble cockpits for Nissan North America Inc.'s site in Canton, Miss., with Lextron owning 51 percent of the venture.
The Canton operation, located just outside Nissan's doors, is held separately from Lextron Corp., said Visteon spokesman Greg Gardner. Any action involving Lextron will not affect the auto firm, he said, adding, ``It's a wholly independent entity.''
Neither Lextron Corp. nor Lextron/Visteon has any on-site plastic processing, instead assembling components supplied by other sources.
