A new Technology Advisory Board is designed to help the Society of Plastics Engineers understand future trends in business and technology.
Leading the board is Kurt Swogger, Dow Chemical Co.'s vice president of research and development for plastics. He is assembling a group of technical business leaders for the board.
The board's goal is to identify how business trends drive technology, and vice versa. For example, Swogger said, such a group could have identified, well in advance, the high energy prices plaguing the plastics industry, then helped SPE create programs to address it.
Karen Winkler, SPE president for 2004-05, announced the initiative May 17 during SPE-Antec in Chicago.
``SPE must continually update its understanding of our industry,'' said Winkler, commercial Six Sigma manager for Dow's engineering plastics business.
Winkler said SPE also is improving its online offerings. She pointed to SPE's E-Learning Center.
