Composites industry pioneer Merwyn C. Gill will fund development of a composites merit badge for the Boy Scouts of America.
Gill is chairman of M.C. Gill Corp. of El Monte, Calif. The firm makes high-performance polymer-matrix composite products, mostly for the commercial aircraft and aerospace industries.
The scouts' San Gabriel Valley Council will work with M.C. Gill in creating requirements, a pamphlet and related materials for the badge.
``Working to create a Composites Merit Badge would show thousands of youth what composites are all about, introduce them to these materials and perhaps even interest them in a career in this growing field,'' Gill said.
