Fiberglass door maker Therma-Tru Corp. has acquired Sentinel Doors Ltd., a maker of exterior composite doors based in Llantrisant, Wales.
Terms of the June 8 deal were not disclosed.
Sentinel has one plant and a nearby assembly facility in its headquarters town, officials said.
Therma-Tru has been serving the United Kingdom market for 15 years, from an operation in Sheffield, England.
``We still have enormous opportunities to convert the marketplace from steel, wood and other materials to fiberglass,'' said Carl Hedlund, president and chief executive officer of Therma-Tru.
Maumee, Ohio-based Therma-Tru also announced it now has a partnership with Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse in the United States.
Officials said that later this year, all Lowe's stores will offer a new selection of smooth and grained fiberglass entry doors. Lowe's has more than 975 stores in 45 states.
Therma-Tru officials said more than half of all entry doors are sold for repair and replacement projects, and expanding the firm's presence where homeowners make their home-improvement purchases is critical.
``Partnering with Lowe's will also allow us to accelerate the growth of the entire category of fiberglass entry systems,'' Hedlund said.
Fiberglass entry doors have been the fastest-growing segment of the market during the past 10 years, officials said. The doors account for nearly 14 percent of the market today and are expected to reach 30 percent by 2007.
