Tallmadge, Ohio-based Diamond America Corp. introduced a twin-lever gate that the company claims can reduce die-change time by 75 percent or more.
The quick-opening gate can be fitted on any size extruder. It is available on new extruders from Diamond America, and it can be retrofitted onto most brands of existing extruders.
The unit features two clamshell halves mounted on levers. When opened, the levers move the halves out from under the barrel so resin being purged out of the barrel does not collect in the clam-shells. The two clam-shells are self-centering when drawn together, for a positive seal.
Since the two lever arms support the gate halves, no heavy lifting is required by the operator. The twin-lever gate can be fitted with a die support arm when required.
Both sides of the gate are electrically heated, to minimize start-up time and improve process stability.
