American Leistritz Extruder Corp. said its GMP series of twin-screw extruders is designed for medical device and pharmaceutical applications, featuring precise extrusion and controls to meet Food and Drug Administration validation requirements.
Screws, barrels and other parts that come into contact with the plastic are made from metals formulations that are not reactive, additive or absorptive with the product. Screws and barrels are available in modular or one-piece designs, depending on the application and cleaning requirements.
Other features include: stainless-steel parts for easy cleaning; quick-release couplings for cooling and heating components; FDA-approved paints, gear oil and lubricants; full documentation of controllers, thermocouples, transducers and indicators; and validated computer controls.
Typically, the GMP extruder is used for compounding and devolatization for medical devices, wet granulates, transdermal/dissolvable films and other solid-dosage forms.
