Moldflow Corp. has delivered a 210-zone Altanium hot-runner process control to Kortec Inc., the supplier of coinjection systems to make multilayer preforms.
The system also includes Moldflow's new Matrix operator interface.
Wayland, Mass.-based Moldflow, obtained the Altanium hot-runner control when it purchased American MSI Corp. in January.
Tim Triplett, Moldflow's executive vice president and general manager of manufacturing solutions, called the Kortec business “a major industry milestone.”
“Coinjection for multilayer preforms requires exceptional melt control and process stability, especially when filling 144 cavities in one shot,” Triplett said.
Altanium can support up to 384 zones. The modular control units can be used free-standing, mounted on the mold or alongside, behind or inside the injection press. The Matrix control panel gives access to temperature control, monitoring and alarm and diagnostic functions.
Kortec is based in Beverly, Mass.
