Davis-Standard Corp. is marketing its Culisse winder to producers of hygienic films and nonwovens, like diaper film and breathable film, because it eliminates the separate steps of slitting and rewinding after the products come from the extruder.
The Pawcatuck, Conn., firm said the Culisse is an alternative to traditional turret winders. The winder can do in-line slitting to widths of 3 inches across a 120-inch web at speeds of 2,000 feet per minute. A scrapless transfer mechanism indexes the new core into position while the transfer is made, without indexing the final roll. Standard turret winders generate scrap during the index cycle of the full roll, according to Davis-Standard.
The Culisse is available with a roll diameter of 40-60 inches. Options include automatic core feed and finished roll removal.
