A new online community for suppliers, customers and peers will enable participants in trade shows sponsored by the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. to develop business opportunities before, during or after the events.
The service, dubbed PlasticsMatch, will become accessible Aug. 9 at www.plasticsusa.org/plasticsmatch to those who have registered to attend or exhibit at Plastics USA 2004, which takes place Sept. 28-30 in Chicago.
The Web site will match people with common interests in specific markets, technologies, products or business functions, and will provide each person with a range of available matches. By mutual consent, matched individuals can communicate electronically well in advance of the show, at the event itself and during a post-show follow-up period.
Show participants will receive a secure personal Web portal they can use to exchange information with others, set up appointments to meet at the show, perform initial research and even start business negotiations, according to Washington-based SPI. As the number of show registrants increases, the SmartEvent software processes incoming data and feeds updated information to participants' private portals.
SPI expects more than 10,000 visitors for Plastics USA, which is held every three years in Chicago.
