Macchi SpA of Varese, Italy, has developed a way to recycle edge trim on blown film lines.
The stand-alone system, called Recotrim, moves the trim to a hopper, where it falls into a co-rotating twin-screw extruder. The scrap is melted and forced through a strand extrusion die. An adjustable-speed cutting system converts the strands into pellets, which are air-cooled using a vortex system, then transferred to a device for additional cooling.
The portable recycling unit can repelletize up to 90 pounds of material an hour. Macchi's North American headquarters is in Guelph, Ontario.
