K 2004 will be another ``electric'' show for Nissei Plastics Industrial Co. Ltd., as the Nagano company again will highlight its all-electric injection press technology.
Nissei will run a micromolding press called the Elject EP5 Real Mini. Mini, indeed: The machine has a clamping force of just 51/2 tons. The machine is designed to mold parts weighing less than 3 grams.
The injection unit uses a center drive system, which directly connects a servomotor to a ball screw. That means it has a start-up response of 0.03 second. Nissei also increased the number of temperature control points in the barrel to six, from the typical four.
For mold clamping, Nissei used a direct-pressure clamping unit with four tie bars, and relatively wide tie-bar spacing. A linear guide is used for both the moving and the stationary platen.
Nissei said the tiny press also can use an infrared mold-monitoring unit, which the company claims is a first in the industry.
At last year's NPE, Nissei introduced its new all-electric, the Elject NEX. Now Europeans will have a look when Nissei shows two Elject NEX machines, with clamping forces of 121 and 198 tons. The machines, which use four servomotors and a belt and ball screw power transmission system, also boast a special controller, the Tact, which Nissei claims has the fastest scanning speed in the injection press industry.
Tact comes in six languages: Japanese, English, Chinese, Spanish, Korean and Thai. A one-touch operation switches the languages back and forth. As many as 300 records of molding conditions can be stored in the controller's memory.
Nissei is promoting speed. According to the company, Elject NEX presses have high injection speeds, a very even injection pressure and quick response.
