Switzerland's Sarna Group is reshaping its automotive division with an increased emphasis on Eastern Europe and a search under way for an executive to lead a global team.
The changes, announced Aug. 27, should have little impact on its North American unit in Marysville, Mich. Doug Chapple, president and chief executive officer of injection molder Sarnamotive Blue Water Inc., continues as manager of the American auto business.
Matti Paasila, CEO of Sarnen-based Sarna, has temporarily taken the job of manager of the European auto unit while the firm searches for a leader for the newly united European and American businesses.
Stefan Tschugmell, the former European director for Sarnamotive, was named manager of the company's new molding facility in Liberec, the Czech Republic.
``With the personnel change in the European automotive division, the time has come to unite the management of our automotive business worldwide,'' Paasila said in a news release. ``We want to shorten the decision-making process between the executive board and the restructuring team, thus ensuring that the necessary decisions for successful implementation of the restructuring are taken quickly and executed according to plan.''
The changes are part of a restructuring of Sarna's auto division, first announced in November, which included closing one plant in Michigan and shifting some assembly work to Liberec from Germany.
