New ACS granulator is compact, portable
ACS Group said its new AEC low-speed granulator, the LPLS Series, is compact and portable.
The granulator handles sprues and reject parts from injection molding presses. A hinged construction allows easy access to the cutting chamber. Other benefits include a maintenance-free drive and a staggered horizontal cutting rotor, according to the company.
Optional features include overfill protection, special feed-chute designs and steel coil auger-style feed mechanisms. The G43-LPLS offers an optional vibration feed.

Addicell purchases line for micro-pellets
Addicell Additive GmbH of Ellerbeck, Germany, has purchased an extrusion line from Berstorff GmbH to make chemical blowing agents in the form of micro-pellets.
Berstorff developed a screw for blowing agents as part of the job.
Before the emergence of micro-pellets for blowing agents, they were made from powderlike compounds or, to avoid dust generation, agglomerates.
Berstorff of Hannover, Germany, was the main contractor on the project. The system includes a gravimetric dosing system for up to three components, one of Berstorff's ZE 50A UTX twin-screw extruders and an underwater pelletizer.
``With micro-pellets, we remove the last traces of dust from our customers' production processes,'' said Rainer Wust, Addicel's chief executive officer.

Trimmer can handle nontraditional bottles
Belvac Production Machinery Inc. of Lynchburg, Va., designed its DTNR Series of rotary trimmers to handle nonround neck finishes on extrusion blow molded bottles, and narrow-neck and wide-mouth bottles.
The machine can trim 200 containers per minute, or 12,000 per hour. It is suitable for bottles made of any resin, including high density polyethylene, polypropylene, PET and multilayer bottles.
Belvac said its patented trimmer technology gives a burr-free, sliver-free and step-free trimming. Belvac will show the DTNR at Pack Expo 2004, Nov. 7-11 in Chicago.
Also at the show, Belvac will demonstrate a single-head unit running its patented flange trimming to make plastic ``cans,'' and its DTO trimmer for offset neck containers, such as F-style bottles and motor oil containers.

Lumetrics measures film size in real time
Lumetrics Inc. said it successfully has tested its DI 330 Opti/Gauge film thickness measurement systems to make multilayer specialty film in full production.
The DI330 Opti/Gauge accurately tracked the thickness, instantly detecting increases and decreases in thickness under real time, the firm said.
The device uses advanced optical technology originally developed by Eastman Kodak Co. to monitor its polyester film for thickness uniformity. Lumetrics enhanced the technology to meet the requirements of specialty film.
The system has an accuracy of plus or minus 0.1 micrometers, according to the company.
Lumetrics is based in Rochester, N.Y.
