Pella Corp. is setting up a vinyl window and door assembly operation in Columbia, S.C.
The Pella-based company expects to begin production in the first quarter of 2005, said spokeswoman Kathy Harkema. She did not disclose where the firm will source vinyl profiles for the plant. Pella acquired a 150,000-square-foot building in Columbia formerly owned by a wire and cable unit of tire maker Pirelli SpA.
The Columbia operation will supply fast-growing Southeast markets. Pella already operates vinyl product assembly plants in Murray, Ky., and Gettysburg, Pa., that serve the region. The Columbia facility could grow to employ as many as 450 within five years, according to the company.
Pella's vinyl product division is based in Gettysburg. It also runs a vinyl products assembly plant in Portland, Ore.
