Workers monitor a machine vision system as it checks for part defects, color variations, errors in label orientation and other problems at Natick, Mass.-based Cognex Corp.'s Plastics USA booth. Final registration for the show, held Sept. 28-30 in Chicago, hit nearly 11,300, although organizers said they do not provide actual attendance figures. By comparison, the 2001 show had 15,100 registrants, and more exhibitors, 418, compared with 363 this year. Organizers said this year's show exceeded their expectations and had more actual attendees than 2001, but they also noted that since 2001, no industrial trade show in the United States has seen significant growth.
