Houston-based Townsend Polymer Services & Information Inc. is joining forces with All China Marketing Research Co. Ltd. to create a database of more than 10,000 of the largest plastics processing plants in China. This is an extension of an alliance with ACMR that dates back about five years, Jerry Morton, Townsend's vice president of marketing and sales, said at K 2004 in Dusseldorf.
Townsend estimates there are 100,000-150,000 plastics processing facilities in China and that consumption there of most major resins will grow significantly over the coming decade, with some resin families seeing double-digit growth. Morton said the two parties first will address the polyethylene film extrusion sector. He said the total project will take about 18 months to complete.
ACMR and Townsend will interview the largest processing facilities in China's 10 coastal provinces, where they say 75-80 percent of the resin consumption is concentrated. Their profiles will include location and contact information, resin and additives consumption data, processes and types of equipment used, and end markets served.
ACMR is a subsidiary of the National Bureau of Statistics of China and is exclusively authorized by the State Statistical Bureau to mine and commercialize its data.
``Plastic Buyer Profiles: China'' will cost $15,000-$50,000, depending on the information desired.
