All-electric injection molding machines mostly are targeted at precision molding, but hydraulic machines still are favored for thin-wall packaging, thanks to their overall speed. Enter BMB SpA's new all-electric press.
BMB claims its all-electric is just as fast as its high-speed hydraulic machines and uses half the energy.
The machine's toggle clamping system is typical of BMB machines. At K 2004 in Dusseldorf, a 220-ton model was molding polypropylene tubs in a four-cavity mold in 3.2-second cycles. The line has clamping forces of 180-275 tons, and a 385-ton version will be added later. BMB is based in Brescia, Italy.
