Alan Johnson was president and chief executive officer of LDM Technologies Inc. when it was acquired in February 2004 by automotive supplier Plastech Engineered Products Inc. The Dearborn, Mich.-based Plastech then named him to be its president and chief operating officer. The acquisition vaulted Plastech's annual sales to an estimated $975 million, with 25 injection molding plants and 5,500 employees.
Johnson has more than 34 years of automotive industry experience. Prior to joining LDM, he served as executive vice president of Federal-Mogul Corp., where he oversaw all operations, OEM and aftermarket, in the Americas and Asia Pacific. Johnson began his career at Federal-Mogul in 1970. He left the firm in 1999 to become president and COO of Exide Corp., but returned to Federal Mogul eight months later. Prior to departing Federal-Mogul in 1999, Johnson was executive VP of global powertrain operations. While there he also served as president of their manufacturing and OEM business units, VP of sealing systems, and VP of their lighting, electrical and fuel systems operations.
Johnson has a BBA from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and an MBA from Wayne State University in Detroit.
