Polyurethane millwork maker Fypon Ltd. is closing two production facilities and one distribution site.
The former Style Solutions Inc. of Archbold acquired Fypon in November. As of Feb. 22, the consolidated companies will operate under the Fypon name.
The closings include Fypon's former headquarters facility in Seven Valleys, Pa., and one other PU millwork facility, in Stewartstown, Pa. Both sites are leased. The firm's layoff notice filed with the state said 162 workers will be affected at the Seven Valleys site and 167 at Stewartstown.
``We spent a great deal of time evaluating the situation and trying to ... successfully continue [the] operations,'' Dave Goulette, vice president and general manager, said in a news release.
``Unfortunately, we were unable to make this happen. Now we're focusing our attention on supporting and assisting the people who will soon be without jobs.''
The firm also will close a distribution site in Hunt Valley, Md., said spokeswoman Kathy Ziprik.
``These are two very similar companies,'' Ziprik said by telephone Feb. 16. ``There's such great overlap. It made sense to consolidate in Archbold.''
The company now will have production facilities in Archbold and in China.
