One of Europe's largest injection molders for the packaging industry is heading to North America, building a plant in Ontario.
The Goderich facility will join 10 other global operations of Germany's Jokey Plastic GmbH.
``Ever since we can remember, it's been our company goal to gain a foothold in the Canadian and American markets,'' the company said in a news release.
Jokey, based in Fähnrichstuttem, Germany, already molds in Germany, France, Poland, the Czech Republic and Algeria. It is the sixth-largest packaging injection molder in Europe, according to research firm Applied Market Information Ltd. of Bristol, England.
Jokey - which takes its name from an abbreviation of founder Josef Kemmerich's name - makes buckets ranging from one-half to 81/2 gallons, with in-mold labeling. It has 1,200 workers and 350 injection molding machines.
The company has a second business group that produces wood and glass bathroom cabinets and furniture.
