GLS touts versatility of newest TPE alloy
GLS Corp. has developed a thermoplastic elastomer alloy it said can overmold a range of rigid plastics, including high density polyethylene.
The firm said its Versaflex OM9-801N is an economical alternative to TPEs designed to overmold a single type of plastic.
The alloy requires no drying and provides a soft-touch feel and good colorability, according to the McHenry, Ill., firm.
The new TPE molds at lower pressures and temperatures than conventional overmolding materials, allowing more freedom of tool design and the ability to use the material in both two-shot and insert molding applications, GLS said.

Guardian blenders get powder feeders
Atlanta-based Process Control Corp. has incorporated its PF Series powder feeder into its line of Guardian gravimetric blenders.
The powder feeder is an auger type, which Process Control said is ideal for feeding nonflowable powder materials such as talc and blowing agents. The feeder allows processors to meter and blend nonflowable materials accurately with standard pellets and regrind at an economical price, the company said.
PF feeders have two drive systems. The first meters the powder into the weigh hopper. The second agitates the powder above the feed screw, preventing bridging and rat-holing in the hopper.

Kistler helps simplify sensor installations
Single-wire pressure-sensor technology for larger molds now is available from Kistler Instrument Corp., replacing coaxial cables.
The technology makes it faster to install mold-pressure sensors. Operations such as shortening cables and attaching to connectors are accomplished quickly, without the need for soldering connections.
Kistler is based in Amherst, N.Y.

Gas desiccant dryers reduce energy costs
Walton/Stout Inc. said its new gas-fired desiccant dryers can save up to 80 percent of energy costs for drying.
Features include a heavy-duty, stainless-steel air-heat exchanger, a stainless and cast-iron heat burner and direct-fired regeneration with temperatures up to 800° F, so the desiccant is thoroughly regenerated.
The firebox has ceramic insulation to conserve energy.
Walton/Stout is in Lithonia, Ga.

Montesino markets Black Box software
Mundelein, Ill.-based Amcor Flexibles Healthcare Inc. said Montesino Associates LLC will market Amcor Flexibles' Black Box software to the worldwide pharmaceutical industry.
Black Box makes projections of the thickness and barrier performance of thermoformed blister packaging, measured at multiple points in each cavity of a mold. Amcor said thinning of blister film during thermoforming is a problem that also hurts the consistency of barrier properties.
The software can help pharmeutical companies conduct packaging studies more quickly and accurately, speed up launches of new drugs and reduce testing costs, according to Amcor.
Montesino is based in Wilmington, Del.

Controller from Berg offers new features
Berg Chilling Systems Inc. has redesigned its temperature controller, available in standard or customized forms.
The Toronto firm said the controller has a touch-screen control panel. It includes a low-watt-density Incoloy heater with 9-24 kilowatts of power. Berg said the heater resists corrosion, and a solenoid valve helps ensure precise control.
An adjustable switch prevents operation at low supply pressure and a bypass line protects the heater and pump if process flow is shut off. Electrical components are mounted in front, and cabinet panels are removable from the side, top and front.
