Roberts PolyPro Inc. has added a new monolayer sheet extruder to expand its line of ring carriers for beverage packages.
The Charlotte company installed the line in mid-November to make Roberts' EasyLift high density polyethylene carriers, marketing director John Eklund said Feb. 22. The line is the firm's first dedicated strictly to carriers.
The carriers hold packages of up to six bottles, Eklund said. Carriers also are used for single bottles, providing a plastic handle to help with lifting and pouring.
Roberts also produces plastic fixtures, including strap handles, for paperboard packaging and makes hooks and converting equipment. The multipack beverage industry is a major growth driver, with the carriers used frequently in club and grocery stores.
With the addition, the company has nine extrusion lines. The equipment was bought piecemeal from several manufacturers and assembled by Roberts over nine months, Eklund said. Total investment was not disclosed.
In business for more than 25 years, Roberts was purchased in 1998 by Pro Mach Inc., a supplier of packaging machinery and services in Atlanta. Roberts employs 60.
