The Society of Plastics Engineers announced the winners of its 2005 Education Awards during its Antec conference in Boston.
SPE's Milwaukee Section won the Section Education Award, for providing financial assistance to schools participating in a program called Polymers: The World of Plastics. The program targets students in fourth through ninth grades who are involved in science using plastics and polymers. A ``polymer ambassador'' spends one week at each school teaching polymer science and plastics recycling.
The Milwaukee Section also won the award in 2000.
Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd. of Bolton, Ontario, sponsored the award, which includes a $5,000 honorarium.
The Student Chapter Education Award went to the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Students there will produce a multimedia compact disc with introductory lectures on polymers and short videos of plastics processing. The CD will be distributed to college and high school students. The student chapter will coordinate a contest.
Chase Plastic Services Inc. of Clarkston, Mich., sponsored the student award, with a $2,500 honorarium.
