Caster Concepts Inc. recently formed its own reaction injection molding subsidiary.
``We see an opportunity to grow the business in a variety of ways, centered around the knowledge gained from polyurethane-coated wheels,'' said Chief Executive Officer William Dobbins.
He said the subsidiary, Reaction Industries LLC, began operating late last year.
Caster Concepts' former RIM part vendor was about 500 miles away from Albion, where Caster is based.
As business increased, shipping costs grew as well, Dobbins said. Caster invested $600,000 and added four employees to set up the PU wheel operation, he said.
Caster makes wheels used in heavy manufacturing to move large items like modular homes or airplane fuselages.
The company also makes a proprietary wheel that can roll over and reject such debris as metal chips, shavings, and sheet-metal screws, he said.
The firm is ISO 9001:2000 certified. Reaction Industries occupies about 10,000 square feet of a 50,000-square-foot plant operated by Caster.
