Stratasys introduces multipurpose PC/ABS
Stratasys Inc. has introduced a polycarbonate/ABS blend for its rapid prototyping systems.
The Minneapolis-based company said manufacturers now have the ability to use the same material in prototype programs that they use for many of their commercial products. Firms often choose PC/ABS blends for production because the blends combine the strength of PC resin with the flexibility of ABS.
Stratasys said it has tested the new material at Daimler Chrysler AG and elsewhere. Besides having good thermal and mechanical properties, Stratasys PC/ABS has a water-soluble support system to make part removal easy. The new material can be used in Stratasys prototyping systems with updated software.

Davis streamlines its ordering process
Davis-Standard Corp. has streamlined the process for ordering and installing its turnkey fence extrusion systems, including help with materials suppliers, on-site training, mechanical and startup service and aftermarket support.
Davis-Standard officials said they have seen a trend in the past two years for fence installers to bring extrusion in-house to reduce costs and increase production.
A typical package to make fence posts, rails and privacy panels consists of a Davis-Standard GC (Gemini Conical) or GP (Gemini Parallel) extruder and capstock coextruder, downstream equipment and three sets of tooling.
The Pawcatuck, Conn., company said its fence lines have an output of 500 pounds an hour to more than 1,800 pounds an hour.
