Insituform Technologies Inc. of Chesterfield has brought its extrusion coating operations in-house after outsourcing for nearly 20 years.
The maker of pipeline rehabilitation systems bought a Davis-Standard nonwoven line to begin extrusion coating in Insituform's plant in Batesville, Miss., said Terry Bell, plant manager.
The 120-inch line includes pre- and post-gauging systems for attaining precise coating thickness, a web treatment system to promote adhesion and minimize web curl, and the capacity to process various polymers beyond polyethylene and polypropylene.
Insituform's products are fed into aging pipes and flushed with cold water to create a new lining. Its extrusion coating line became fully operational in August 2004, officials said.
