Teleflex Medical OEM has opened a technical center in Mansfield, Mass.
The medical parts maker, headquartered in Bannockburn, Ill., opened the 25,000-square-foot center in June and expected to finish adding equipment by the end of the month, said Ed Boarini, Teleflex vice president of research and development and original equipment.
The site will provide an initial contact for medical customers, which are located primarily in the Northeast, Boarini said at Medical Design & Manufacturing East, held June 13-15 in New York. The center will include engineering, design, testing and prototyping functions. It also will perform a small amount of insert molding and assembly for extruded products, but will use nearby facilities in Jaffrey, N.H., and Limerick, Pa., for the bulk of its extrusion work, he said.
The firm makes medical devices and orthopedic surgical instruments. Teleflex Medical is part of Limerick-based Teleflex Inc., a global company that also has automotive and aerospace operations.
The center will start with 25 people and add staff as work progresses, Boarini said.
