Firefighters were on the scene of a blaze at recycler Alternative Plastics Inc. in Lawrenceburg on July 8, one day after the fire apparently started in a company warehouse.
The blaze, which burned so hot that local newspapers said firefighters' helmets were melted when they tried to enter the building, apparently was contained to the warehouse and had not reached the company's main production facility nearby, account manager Stephanie Hall said in a phone interview.
No employees were injured.
Hall said electricians had been working on a panel near some grinding equipment, and the fire apparently started in that area.
The company will shift production to facilities in Gentry, Ark., and Harrisonburg, Va., for the short term, Hall said.
As of last week, the firm anticipated restarting production in the main facility soon, Hall said. Firefighters were not sure if they could save the warehouse.
