Authorities are investigating the cause of a July 12 blaze that destroyed one of thermoformer Nasco Inc.'s buildings.
The fire at the Fort Atkinson plant began after 6 p.m. Flames were contained by about 10 fire departments in and around Jefferson County, said Fort Atkinson fire Chief Tom Emrick. No one was hurt.
``The whole building is going to have to be torn down. Structurally, it's not a safe or sound building,'' Emrick said in a July 13 telephone interview. He added that many of the manufacturing molds and files were salvageable.
President Phil Niemeyer told the Janesville (Wis.) Gazette that the company plans to move production from the 15,000-square-foot damaged building into a warehouse on the property. Some equipment was damaged, but he would not provide specifics.
Nasco serves the education, farming, ranching and health markets, using catalogs to sell teaching aids and supplies. Niemeyer told the Gazette that the firm employs more than 600, including 82 in plastics.
