Doskocil Manufacturing Co. Inc. of Arlington, Texas, has acquired the assets of injection molder Stylette Inc., whose operations did not recover from flood damage last fall.
Officials would not disclose the purchase price for the July 1 transaction, which included Stylette's molds, inventory, accounts receivable and intellectual property. Doskocil will move all machinery from Stylette's manufacturing facility in Oakdale, Pa., to Arlington.
Administrative functions and manufacturing will be merged into the Arlington operation as well, Gary Baughman, Doskocil's president and chief executive officer, said in a July 12 telephone interview.
``Their product lines were very compatible with ours,'' Baughman said of Stylette.
In addition to housewares and office products, Stylette also manufactured pet products like litter pans and pet carriers. It had been in operation since 1952 and recently focused on developing and marketing products such as the LitterRoundUp automatic litter pan and the Bubbler aerated water dispenser.
``Our primary focus was on pet products. We bought virtually all of their molds,'' Baughman said.
Baughman would not disclose how much machinery is involved. Stylette closed its manufacturing site in Oakdale last fall after a flood left 4-5 feet of water in its offices, manufacturing floor and warehouse. At that time, Stylette moved its molds out of the building and relied on outsourcing, sending the work to molders in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Baughman said some manufacturing may remain with outside vendors.
``We're going to evaluate the opportunity to go forward in other product categories. We will merge some of the products into the Petmate brand. We'll continue to market product lines under Petmate and Stylette. We are still evaluating whether or not we will need to add additional space,'' he said.
Doskocil also manufactures in Belgium, where it continues to build its European business.
