Wittmann Kunststoffgeräte GmbH has launched its first manufacturing in China, and plans to expand there beyond robots.
The Vienna company started making robots at its factory in Kunshan, China, near Shanghai, in April, with capacity to produce about 300 a year. Wittmann is making two models of robots, its full servo W711 and its one-axis model W710, and plans to make mold temperature controllers and beside-the-press granulators.
The firm sees a trend toward more full servo robots in Asia, instead of simpler one-axis models, as manufacturers there prefer better technology, President Werner Wittmann said in a news release.
Robots and the other equipment will be produced initially for China and Asia, but eventually will be exported.
The Kunshan plant has a machining center and sheet-metal production, including laser and plasma cutting, to make all its own major parts. Werner Wittmann said the firm plans to purchase land for an unspecified expansion.
Wittmann also plans to produce its Drymax PDC dryers in China starting next year.
