Tokyo-based Toshiba Machine Co. Ltd. is building a second injection press assembly plant in Shanghai, China.
Toshiba began manufacturing its all-electric presses in Shanghai in late 2002 - marking its first factory anywhere outside of Japan. The second plant factory should be completed by late August, said Hiroshi Iba, the new president of Toshiba Machine Co. America.
Iba did not have information on the sizes of the factories, but he said the new plant doubles the amount of Toshiba's manufacturing space in China.
Both China plants will build all-electric presses, with clamping forces from 44-385 tons. Toshiba Machine also makes hydraulic presses, but Iba said the company's China plants will make only the all-electrics. ``We have no plan to introduce hydraulic machines in Shanghai,'' he said.
Iba updated Toshiba's China plans during a July 21 interview at the company's Chicago Technology Seminar. It was his second day on the job as president of the Toshiba Machine Co. America.
Iba, a 35-year Toshiba veteran, came to Elk Grove Village from the company's Hong Kong operation, where he was managing director.
