Malish Corp. of Willoughby, Ohio, has purchased injection molder Total Plastics Inc., in part to supply Malish with molded parts for its proprietary line of rotary brushes.
Malish Corp. already has a plastics operation, Malish Plastics, that extrudes profile, pipe and tube and makes custom products and proprietary parts for Malish Corp.'s rotary brushes, said David Huston, national sales manager of Malish Plastics.
``We had been purchasing tons of molded items, and that's why we went into extruding in the first place. Now we decided to purchase one of our biggest suppliers [Total Plastics],'' Huston said in an Aug. 23 telephone interview.
Total Plastics will not be limited to molding work for Malish applications.
``We're going to do quite a bit of outside custom work. We're looking to grow the business,'' Huston said.
He specifically listed point-of-purchase displays as an area of interest. Malish also may develop its own products that incorporate its extruding and injection molding capabilities.
Total Plastics runs 16 presses, including one 500-, one 1,000- and two 850-ton machines.
Though Malish Plastics has tooling capability, most of Total Plastics' mold making will be done in China, either by outsourcing or at Malish's Dongguan facility.
Huston would not disclose the size of Total Plastics' lone site in Mentor, Ohio, the purchase price or the size of Total Plastics' workforce.
