Plastic bag manufacturer Trans Western Polymers Inc. has laid off 43 workers at its Livermore headquarters plant.
California's Employment Development Department reported Trans Western laid off 15 workers June 5 and another 28 on July 2. The Livermore operation employs about 130, according to a list of the largest employers near Pleasant, Calif., posted on that city's Web site.
Trans Western Chief Operating Officer Laura Barnard had no comment. The firm will build a production plant near Sparks, Nev., due to begin operating in January 2007. Its other production plants are near Tamaqua, Pa., and in China.
