Specialty chemicals and coatings company Enthone Inc. has opened a $3 million technical service center in Shanghai, China, to reinforce its presence in that country.
The center includes a facility for processing Enthone's anti-wear, anti-corrosion and decorative coatings on various parts for automotive, plumbing and other surface-finishing applications.
The site is equipped with five lines for pre-treatment, plating and post-treatment chemical processing of parts, including Enthone's Udique plating-on-plastics system, according to West Haven-based Enthone. The firm is part of Cookson Electronics of Providence, R.I., a division of Cookson Group plc.
The Shanghai unit will employ more than 60. Enthone already has manufacturing units in Shanghai and Shenzhen.
In the past three years, the firm has invested more than $10 million to strengthen manufacturing, technical support, marketing and sales operations in the country.
Enthone's processes also are used in printed wiring board and in semiconductor, aerospace and jewelry applications.
