Arkema Inc. claims better color control in thermoset resins when its new methyl ethyl ketone peroxide initiator is used.
The Philadelphia firm says Luperox disappearing-red MEK peroxide imparts a red color when mixed into the resin, assuring the processor that initiator is part of the mixture. During resin cure the red color disappears, unlike when permanent dyes are used to denote initiator content. Processors have more color freedom with the system, Arkema said.
Arkema so far has developed three disappearing-red versions of its Luperox initiators and claims more are on the way. The firm plans to feature the technology at the American Composite Manufacturers Association Meeting scheduled for Sept. 28-30 in Columbus, Ohio.
