Engel Speed — a new line of injection presses for high-speed packaging from Engel Holding GmbH will be unveiled at the Fakuma trade show, set for Oct. 18-22 in Friedrichshafen, Germany.
Engel announced last year it was moving back into the market for high-speed presses to mold thin-wall packaging.
The Schwertberg, Austria-based press maker reduced the moving mass of the injection unit to a minimum, helping the machine read injection speeds up to 1,000 millimeters per second. Instead of using the tie bars to guide the moving platen, that function is handled with a carriage on the Speed. At Fakuma, Engel will mold polypropylene yogurt cups on a six-cavity mold, with a 3½-second cycle time.
In other Engel news, Dutch pipe fittings molder Dyka BV purchased an Engel Victory press with a tie-barless clamping unit. Dyka of Steenwijk, the Netherlands, has bought a total of 60 Engel injection molding machines.
Dyka, part of Tessenderlo Group, does an average of 25 mold changes per day, making tie-barless presses a big attraction, because they allow unrestricted access to the mold area.
Engel's North American operation, Engel Machinery Inc., is in Guelph, Ontario.
