Bag converter and printer Yankee Plastics Inc. has told its 15 employees it will close by the end of October.
Ken Eggleston, one of the owners, said worsening business conditions during the past six months have created a difficult situation. He said there were many factors in the decision including overseas competition, the rising cost of resin and a lack of trained workers.
Yankee Plastics formerly was known as Apollo Plastics and was located in Florence, Mass. The name change came after an employee-led buyout. The firm moved to Easthampton in 1999.
The company uses polyethylene and polypropylene to make bags of up to 55 inches in width and 120 inches in length.
Yankee Plastics occupies a leased facility. It plans to liquidate its machinery.
