Thermoset laminate sheet manufacturer Norplex-Micarta of Postville has opened an Asia-Pacific office in Shenzhen, China.
``The China office is our first non-U.S. business,'' said Denny Ford, vice president and general manager. ``We do work with other Asian supply partners.''
The company sees a need for its products to be more available to fabricators and original equipment manufacturers in Asia, as applications of engineered thermoset composites become more prevalent.
``Asia is a key part of our customers' strategy,'' Ford said.
Asian business manager Sally Zhou, who joined the firm in June, will coordinate customer and operational activity within the region.
Norplex-Micarta is sharing the office in Shenzhen with its parent, Industrial Dielectrics Inc., whose Chinese subsidiary is IDI Thermoset Molding Compounds Shenzhen Co. Ltd.
Noblesville, Ind.-based IDI has production sites in Shanghai and Shenzhen.
Norplex-Micarta will consider options to manufacture in China, Ford said.
