PolyOne Corp. will close its color masterbatch plant in Manchester, England, early next year, cutting as many as 40 jobs.
The Avon Lake firm blamed ``declining industrial and manufacturing activity'' in Britain and difficult European economic conditions. However, only last year, the company invested in high-capacity mixing equipment at the Manchester facility, which supplies color additives chiefly for packaging.
PolyOne stressed that the plant closing will not affect its customers in wire and cable products, engineering compounds and some concentrate ranges, already supplied by units elsewhere in Europe. The group's polymer coatings systems plant in Widnes, England, making vinyl plastisols, inks and additive dispersions, also is unaffected.
