Custom injection molder Vaupell Inc. has invested more than $4 million to consolidate four Massachusetts molding, machining and toolmaking operations.
The new entity, Vaupell North East Molding & Tooling in Agawam, Mass., operates 45 injection molding machines with 35-350 tons of clamping force. Vaupell combined operations from West Brookfield, Marlborough and two in West Hatfield. The new company expects ISO certification in mid-2006 for molding implantable medical devices, officials said.
Another Vaupell operation in Constantine, Mich., holds the necessary ISO certification and makes bioabsorbable implant materials.
Vaupell also focuses on the aerospace market.
The Agawam site includes 57,000 square feet of space for molding; 23,000 square feet for precision machining, toolmaking and gauging; 15,000 square feet for assembly; and 11,500 square feet for clean room areas to Classes 7 and 8 certification for molding and assembly. Vaupell has sublet another 82,000 square feet with an option to assume the space if needed.
H.I.G. Capital LLC of Miami owns Vaupell. Seattle-based Vaupell projects 2005 sales exceeding $70 million.
