Huhtamäki Oyj, the global consumer packaging company, plans to cut 90 jobs at a rigid container plant in Northern Ireland.
Espoo-based Huhtamäki announced it has opened talks with trade union representatives of workers at its Portadown plant, which now employs 190.
The company said it intends to continue production with a reduced workforce at the former Polarcup business site, which thermoforms polypropylene containers.
The company has plants nearby in Gosport, England, and Lurgan, Northern Ireland.
Since Huhtamäki first announced plans to restructure almost a year ago, it has closed a thermoforming and injection molding plant in Leeds, England, switching some jobs to Gosport, and is in the process of shutting down its expanded polystyrene molding facility in Skelmersdale, England.
