Peter Bemis has been with Bemis Manufacturing Co. (www.bemismfg.com) for more than 35 years and is president of its Contract Products Group. As a 50-percent owner of the third-generation, family-owned company, he also is corporate vice president of the 105-year-old, Sheboygan Falls Wis., firm.
A leading practitioner of coinjection and multishot molding, the company manufactures compression molded, injection molded and extruded products, many of which (such as its toilet seats) are branded under the Bemis name. The 2,200-employee corporation is well known for its employee training programs and for its team-oriented management style.
Bemis himself holds 13 process patents, helped pioneer statistical process control in the industry 30 years ago, and has driven the company to adopt many new technologies. Bemis Manufacturing, for example, runs a 6,600-ton horizontal coinjection molding machine – believed to be the world´s largest – and has used it to produce mammoth, 8-foot-long agricultural tractor hoods.
A native of Sheboygan County, Bemis graduated from Carroll College in Waukesha, Wis., in 1969, majoring in business administration and economics, with a minor in philosophy. He also has been very active as a national and regional board member for the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. and with the National Plastics Center & Museum in Leominster, Mass.
