Da/Pro Rubber Inc. has expanded into the Northeast - and plastics - with the purchase of an injection molding operation in Newburyport, Mass.
The custom rubber product molding company significantly increased its capabilities by acquiring the assets of Morrison Machine & Tool Co. Inc., its 30,000-square-foot production plant and 12 injection molding machines. The amount of the investment was not disclosed.
The workforce at the facility - a plant manager, three engineers and 15-20 production workers - was retained by Da/Pro, sales manager Holly Dorland said, and more employees will be added.
``This fits into our business model,'' Dorland said. ``The engineering staff at the plant is very impressive. The addition of TPEs is one of the main reasons we acquired the business.''
The Newburyport plant also gives the company room for expansion when it becomes necessary because the factory currently is not near capacity, she said.
The plant's 12 injection presses mold commodity and engineered thermoplastics and TPEs, and do insert molding, overmolding and cable-connector overmolding. Its services include rapid prototyping, hot stamping, sub-assembly, special packaging and mold making. With the acquisition, Da/Pro now has four plants. The others are in Broken Arrow, Okla., Valencia, where Da/Pro is based, and Jurong, Singapore.
