The medical division of Sanmina-SCI Corp. of San Jose, Calif., gained full use of a large Fermoy, Ireland, plant in December.
Previously, the division shared the site with another Sanmina-SCI unit.
``We believe we are the biggest medical provider'' among contract manufacturers, Gelston Howell, the division's senior vice president, said in an interview at the Medical Design & Manufacturing West show in Anaheim.
He estimates the medical division generates annual sales of at least $650 million and is rapidly growing.
Vertically integrated Sanmina-SCI, which had sales of $11.7 billion for the fiscal year ended Oct. 1, customizes electronics manufacturing services, usually for name-brand original equipment manufacturers.
In the medical arena, Sanmina-SCI offers a range of products that comply with Food and Drug Administration regulations and evolving European directives on electronic and hazardous waste, Howell said.
Sanmina-SCI's breadth of medical products differentiate it from other providers, Howell said. Volume ranges from a few hundred CT scanners or nuclear-medicine systems, to millions of hand-held blood-glucose meters.
He said the division employs 2,500.
