If it's a title fight, then officials at the Composite Fence, Deck and Railing Manufacturer's Association feel like they're winning after the early rounds.
The composite decking explosion has manufacturers hungry for a unified industry voice. And CFDRMA - a division of the Glen Ellyn, Ill.-based American Fence Association - wants to be that voice.
The group made a splash at a wood-plastic composites conference in Baltimore in October. It was the organization's first public appearance. CFDRMA has grown by 40 percent since then.
Additives supplier Kibbechem Inc. of Elkhart, Ind., and Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio-based concentrates maker Americhem Inc. joined the group at Fencetech in Las Vegas.
Citing technical competency and support services, John Hensler, Americhem extrusion business manager, said joining CFDRMA was the right thing to do.
Kevin Brennan, vice president of sales and marketing for TimberTech Ltd., said the composite lumber manufacturer is a member of CFDRMA, as well as the Washington-based Composite Lumber Manufacturers Association and the North American Deck and Railing Association in Meridian, Idaho.
Brennan said TimberTech officials will decide in March which group to support long-term.
``We're going to pick just one horse to ride,'' he said.
