Cellular PVC trim extruder Azek Trimboards has formed a partnership with longtime custom wood products maker Walpole Woodworkers Inc. to provide the material for Walpole's new Freeport Collection.
The commercial launch of the product coincided with the International Builders' Show, held Jan. 11-14 in Orlando.
Using Azek's cellular PVC, Walpole is offering a line of exterior home-accent pieces - including cupolas and pergolas often found in hard-to-reach places on upscale homes - that company officials tout as weather-resistant and maintenance-free options.
That was the key for consummation of the deal, which was two years in the making, said Walpole President Louis Maglio.
``Our customers are looking for less maintenance. But it still looks handmade,'' he said. ``For window boxes and planters, it's a no-brainer. You don't even need a liner.''
Azek's cellular PVC can be cut and installed with the same tools used in traditional woodworking.
``It's the perfect wood replacement in nonstructural, nonload-bearing applications,'' Azek President Ralph Bruno said of his company's product.
The custom woodworking firm is based in Walpole, Mass. Azek Trimboards, a division of CPG/Vycom Corp., has its headquarters Moosic, Pa.
