Custom injection molder Plastic Components Inc. of Germantown plans to add four Nissei presses this year.
Two of the presses will have clamping forces of 90 tons; the others will be a 300- and a 35-tonner. Including three machines acquired in 2005, the firm operates 36 presses of 35-300 tons.
In October, Plastic Components completed a 5,500-square-foot expansion for administrative offices, bringing total space to 42,000 square feet. The project cost $875,000.
The company began production at the site in 1989 and expanded in 1992, 1996 and 1999. The addition gave Plastic Components space for more presses and filled the site's last available land.
Plastic Components, which employs 45, also planned to update its IQMS management software system. The software enables engineers and production managers to run jobs without a need for press operators. The firm's initial IQMS software was installed in 2002.
In late 2005, Plastic Components gained visibility on cable outlet MSNBC by working with Broadcast News Corp. Inc. of Addison, Texas. Plastic Components invested $30,000 for seven hours of video production footage, building photography and broadcast placement on the Winners Circle program hosted by Terry Bradshaw.
