PWP Industries of Vernon, Calif., said it will invest $9 million to $12 million to equip an Abilene, Texas, building for its third manufacturing site.
PWP extrudes and thermoforms amorphous PET packaging for bakery items and fresh-cut-produce at facilities in Mineral Wells, W.Va., and Vernon, and plans to begin operations in Abilene in August.
The Abilene facility is expected to employ 120. PWP is leasing the 112,500-square-foot building from Development Corp. of Abilene and has secured a purchase option.
Workforce quality, customer proximity and support from both Development Corp. and the Abilene Industrial Foundation were major factors in locating the project in Abilene, Ira Maroofian, PWP president, said in a March 17 news release. ``I have been especially pleased with the assistance we've received from the local economic development groups.''
Details of the support were not available. The company plans to begin modifying the building now.
Holding company HPC Industries LLC of Los Angeles controls PWP. HPC, owned by Leon Farahnik, also owns film extruder Hilex Poly Co. LLC of Hartsville, S.C.
